The money raised to date is used at The Alfred hospital’s Adult CF Centre, to fund for a physiotherapy service and train community therapists in this specialised area, which is beyond the scope of existing government funding.
No funds raised by the Simon Rhoden Foundation are used for administration costs.
Since its establishment, this Service has provided over 500 treatments that include relaxation and remedial massage, musculo-skeletal physiotherapy, stretches, postural exercises and general advice to help relieve muscle tension and pain from repeated coughing and postural changes for people with CF.
People with CF often require up to 4 hours of intensive physiotherapy treatment every day assisting to keep their lungs clear. Development and outcomes of this musculo-skeletal massage service have formed the basis of research presented to both Australian and International CF conferences. Preliminary data gathered, and the program’s results, are being used to develop a future research trial in adults with CF.
