The 2009 Artichoke Classic at Peridot Lake Estate
Sunday 15th March 2009.
Please note : CHANGE OF VENUE. Lunch is now at Peridot Lake Estate, 284 Main Creek Road, Main Ridge, MELWAYS REF: 171 K8.
The second event will consist of two cycle options.
60km challenge with an optional self-handicapped King of the Mountain hill climb up Arthurs Seat.
Also a 20km fun challenge with no hill climb but taking in the scenery of the beautiful Mornington
Peninsular and wineries.
Ride start is 9am sharp for the 60km riders. For the 20km riders, ride start is 10am.
Both rides will finish with lunch at 12 pm, at the stunning Peridot Lake Estate Vineyard.
Lunch consists of rustic, traditional Greek food and friendly family service, coupled with a glass of the famous
Peridot local wine.
All participants will receive an event showbag full of goodies.
Please come and join in an event which brings people together to enjoy the environment,
cycling, great wine and food and also help those with cystic fibrosis who really need your help.
It is a very unique event, which has a wonderful warm feel about it. So open your heart, be
it an artichoke or not, and come along. We would love to see you.
The self-handicapping system is to encourage a fun non-competitive hill climb up
Arthur’s Seat. Depending on your handicap, you will be set off from the bottom
of the hill at different times. Those with a stronger handicap will be set off
first, with the fastest riders leaving last to chase everyone up the hill.
Hopefully it will be a tight finish for all with the winner taking home the
prestigious Artichoke Classic King of the Mountain title, and a prize well
worth the effort!
For both rides, they will leave from and return to Peridot winery, which is where the lunch
will also be held.
During the day there will be raffles and silent auctions.
For those of you not riding, but coming down with a rider, there are plenty of other events to
participate in whilst waiting for the riders to come back and we will provide a
list on the day, such as cheese tastings, the Ashcombe maze for the kids,
strawberry farms etc.
So make a day of it, enjoy a very beautiful part of the
world and polish it off with a glass of wine or two.
Costs : $85 for Ride and Lunch (includes Artichoke Classic T-Shirt)
